Beer Review: Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter

In Baltic Porter, Reviews on June 2, 2011 at 12:31 pm

Beer and Ralph Steadman illustrations? I’m sold.  Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter.  Here’s my review:

Pours dark black, with a topping of fine khaki colored bubbles.

The nose is woody, with dark fruit and some toffee, chocolate and coffee aromas and some addition booziness.  Raisin, fig, licorice, cocoa powder, and bittersweet chocolate are all components in the fruity nose.

Sweet caramel and chocolaty malt flavors up front with a jump to a fruity center and a molasses, tobacco and woody finish with touches of hop perhaps the fruit and earthy presence that lingers faintly with some bitterness.

Nice example of a beefed up porter.  Rich aromas and flavors with a sticky mouthfeel.

Style: Baltic Porter

ABV: 9.2%

Cheers!
