Beer Review: Beer Here Dark Hops

In Black IPA, Reviews on December 2, 2010 at 12:30 pm

My favorite style of beers, the newly categorized Black IPA / Cascadian Dark Ale / IBA to name a few of the names for this deliciously dark, roasty and hoppy beer is the next beer on PourThought.  Dark Hops made by Danish brewery Beer Here has a cool label and a promising future.  Here’s my review:

Dark impenetrable black with a tight mocha head.

The aroma is a mix of bittersweet chocolate malt with a bright citrusy and grassy hop note.  An intriguing blend of delicious smells.

The taste is of bittersweet dark espresso and chocolate that rolls into a grassy center with a lingering hoppy finish.  Sweet grapefruit comes through.  It is a simple tasting beer, but it has interesting layers.

Great dark flavors that are lightened by the bright hop notes.

Very well balanced and a great example of this style and why I like it so much.

Style: Black IPA

ABV: 8.5%
