Beer Review: Mikkeller/BrewDog I Harcore You

In Double IPA, Reviews on November 18, 2010 at 12:58 pm

This week at PourThought, will be featuring collaboration beers.  I Hardcore You is a Double IPA brewed by Scottish BrewDog and Danish Mikkeller.  The second beer is a collaboration of 13 malts and hops in He’Brew’s Jewbelation 13 for their 13th anniversary.  The third beer this week will be Lost Abbey’s Deliverance, a combination of their brandy barrel-aged Angel’s Share and bourbon barrel-aged Serpent Stout.  It’s a boozy week!  Mikkeller’s I Beat YoU and BrewDog’s Hardcore IPA have teamed up in this Double IPA.  Here’s my review:

Comes out of the bottle in a hazy copper, burnt orange with an off white tight head.  It is a bit dark, bubbly and intense looking brew.

Aromas of fruity citrus, pine and caramel flood the nose.  The hop notes provide floral smells and the malt provides the backbone.

Piney and fruity bitter hops hit the tongue first and then play to a sweet malty center with hops resonating again on the back, with a lasting finish that is a battle of sweet malt and bitter hops.  Notes of apricot, orange, pine, grapefruit rind.

This is a very tasty and simple straightforward DIPA.

Nice malt presence, resounding hop presence.

Try it with some sharp cheddar.

Style: Double IPA

ABV: 9.5%

Cheers!
