Beer Review: Brooklyn Lager

In Reviews on September 24, 2009 at 7:20 am

This is the first of many reviews that will also be added to   I am on a quest of sorts to try every style beer, and trying all of the greats of each style.  I am going at this in a sort of arbitrary way.  Some will follow BeerAdvocate form of Appearance, Smell, Taste, Mouthfeel, Drinkability.  Others will just be my thoughts on the beer, taking in those characteristics and usually other tangents like the correlation between the sun and beer.

Brooklyn Lager

This is my first official taste of what Brooklyn offers. I have had their beers before, the lager, and sips of chocolate and brown when I was young, but not since I realized what beer should be, and before becoming a beer geek. I have always respected the brewery and what they offer, recently I found out they run on renewable energy, which makes me like them even more.
The beer poured out with a nice white head about a finger in height. When held to the light it resembled a late summer sunset. Resembling sunrise/sunset is one of the most alluring character of a beers appearance.
The smell was terrific. Nice balance of malt and hops. Great floral smell. The taste was somewhat similar, a bit more complex with early sweet malt transforming into a nice dry hoppy finish. It has a very refreshing mouthfeel. Substantial but not too heavy. This is now one of my top session beers. Along with Sam Adams they are two great beers you can spend a night or day with.
