Beer Review: Sam Adams Octoberfest

The bottle poured a nice deep orange with a finger of white head, tiny bubbles, not overly carbonated. There wasn’t much of an aroma to this beer, light malt, maybe some caramel.
The taste beats the smell by far. The lack of aroma led me to be very surprised, by a nice sweet caramel taste, sweet malt and very little bitterness in the finish. Leaves a bit of a sticky mouthfeel. It is has a pretty good drinkability, nice to have a few as the summer is ending.

I think this beer is great at anytime, and the people at Sam Adams should make it available year-round.  It would make it less special, but there’s no reason to restrict drinking this beer to the fall.  It is the perfect balance of light and dark, teetering more one the lighter end of the spectrum, to be a very easy to drink beer.  It was more enjoyable than say, Paulaner Oktoberfest-Marzen that is available year-round.  The Paulaner was good, but more than one was pushing it with the way they did the style.  The Sammy Octoberfest, is more rounded and I think is a pretty versatile beer.
